She was a lead guitarist in The Runaways, a hard-rock group made up of girls in late 1970s. Their punkish music and raunchy lyrics made them not only the attention of rock fans but also from the community. The group failed to make a significant impact within the United States but earned huge popularity overseas especially in Japan. Ford had a long and prosperous career as a solo performer after the band split from 1979. She took vocal lessons and recorded her first solo album , 'Out For Blood' followed by 'Dancin' on the Edge.
